Sunshine in a bottle, aged just right.
Ingredients:
- 1 bottle (750ml) bourbon (nothing too peaty or smoky — smooth and slightly sweet works best)
- Zest of 2 oranges
- Zest of 1 lemon
- Zest of 1 grapefruit (optional for extra depth)
- 1 quart-size jar with lid
Pro Tip: Use a vegetable peeler or cocktail zester to get only the colorful outer layer (no bitter white pith).
Instructions:
- Zest It Up:
Wash your citrus well. Peel thin strips of zest and toss them into your clean jar. - Pour It In:
Add the bourbon over the zest. Seal the jar tightly and give it a little shake. - Infuse It:
Let sit in a cool, dark place for 4–5 days, swirling gently once per day. - Taste It:
Check the flavor on Day 4. Want it punchier? Let it go one more day. - Strain & Store:
Remove zest and strain into a clean bottle. Store at room temp or refrigerate for a crisper finish.
Serve It In:
- Citrus Old Fashioned with orange bitters
- Whiskey Sour with fresh lemon juice
- Neat or over ice with a rosemary or orange peel garnish
Shelf Life:
Stays lovely for 2 months, longer if kept cool.
