And then… there’s “I Don’t Want to Do Anything Else” by Mary J. Blige and K-Ci Hailey—the kind of slow-burning, gut-punch ballad that somehow never got its proper flowers. This wasn’t just another random album filler. This was two of the most vocally gifted people of the ’90s pouring every last drop of their messy, beautiful, dramatic, can’t-live-with-you-can’t-live-without-you energy into one song.

This was right in the middle of the Mary and K-Ci era—which, if you’ve read even one interview or caught one behind-the-scenes rumor from back then, you already know was… let’s call it complicated.
